Garon Davis Race Report Jim Cobb and the trail staff must have done a rain dance all week before this one! Southern Indiana had been suffering from very dry conditions until IXCR rolled into town. As soon as the race day started we were greeted with nice showers all thru the day. Our youth bikes took the track first and they tackled the slick grassy hills with ease. Kaleb Hagan came up from Kentucky and put his KTM out in front of everyone in the 65cc open class with Gage Sproles as runner up. Braden Browning and Jaden Smith battled it out all day and Braden took the win for the day. Zach Mehuron rounded out the podium for our youth bikers. Next up was the Mini-Quads and the guys on the front row were trying to chase down Thomas Hufferd but he held everyone off in the Super Mini class. Cole Setser is using IXCR for practice for the nationals and it looks like he’s ready to go. Cole won the 90cc Production class in style. The 90cc stock class saw 14 riders take to the rain soaked trails. Bryce Enright would up third right behind Lee Smith. Tyler Weltich found his way to the front and that’s where he finished. Our 70cc open class had Kaleeb Williams out front. He did take a bad spill during the race but he is doing fine and will be ready for round 7! I couldn’t help but notice a few bike guys pulling out early and not even unloading the bikes due to the rain but that was a bad idea. This course had it all and was one of my personal favorites. David Hollander had a great battle going with Marty Michaels till Marty suffered mechanical failure which gave the win to David followed up by John Chaille in the Pro class. A lites goes to Jack Mason with Derrik Allen in tow. Jack and Derrick joined David on the podium for the top three overall finishers. Ken Teuschler won the Vet 30+A class with Zeke Smith in the second slot. Joe Halcomb has been very consistent this year and I just catch this old guy. He took home another #1 plaque in the 40+A class. Matt and Chris Dargie cleaned up in the B Class while Bryan Dewar won the B Lites class. Vet B 30+ rider Chris Miller had no problems with the slick hills while Charlie Mullins kept it pinned thru the rocky ravines and took home another win in 40+B with Randy Block and Ray Phillips in second and third. Don Rainey was a new face and he broke thru for his first IXCR win in the Super Senior 50+ class. JB Love, Zach Love, and Nick Mitchell were the top finishers in 15-21 C Bike. I managed to find the front of the class again with Tim Smith and new mounted bike rider Brandon Ricks rounding out 22-29C. Shawn Cantrell was close to home and he rode to a win in 30+c followed up by Darrin Moyer and Jeff Enderle. And last but not least Bailey Parker put her KTM up front again and she’s on her way to another Championship. After the bike guys had done their work it was time for the quad riders to hit the sticks. Don Ockerman was on another level on this day and he rode to a big win in the Pro Class. Todd “got a ticket” Demaree and Josh “five foot level” Beavers battled all day and grabbed second and third. Andy Klingworth was 2nd overall and won the Pro-am class with Fred Marley as runner up. Nate Wallpe was victorious in the A Class with Tyler Bostock and Evan Short on his heals. The 16-23 B Class had a new face at the front with Cody Gibbs taking the “W” and Justin Kirchhoff and Braden Nichols rounding out the top riders. Mike Muskopf has wrapped up the Vet B Championship for the GNCC’s and he’s trying to do the same at IXCR. He got another victory with Marquis Dungan giving chase. Kevin Blundell and Matt Williams put on another great show and a special shout to Jeff Wagoner who rode really well for a third place finish in 24+B. Kevin Cunningham was on the gas again in the 16-21 C Class with Suzuki mounted Jake Humphrey right behind him. Zac Wathen was rolling out in the 22-27 C Class and Chris Benskin tried his best to run him down. Hilltop Motorsports rider Robert Brancamp won 28-35C followed up by WKC Powersports rider Chad Muskopf with my young buddy Brad Lambert taking third. Roy Enright took home the gold in 36+ C and Danny Mullins was third. And oh yeah, some guy name Scott Pike got second, I guess I better make mention of that too :) Tyler Veerkamp won the biggest class of the day in First Yr racer 16-24 with William Spence winning First Yr Racer 25+. Jason Kirchhoff put his 400ex out front in the Sport Class with Bryan Chenoweth second. Shaun East won Sport Lites and Adam Smith won the Utility class. This wraps up the report for this round and everyone is about to get really busy with GNCC’s the next two weekends and then IXCR will be back in action on October 18th. Get the bikes washed up, and go try a GNCC to get ready for the biggest race of the year in Crawfordsville when IXCR will Co-Sanction a race with the Ironman.
Until next time, stay between the trees! Garon Davis |
